Mama Deza 2019, Miss Rebecca Agbleke on Monday, 20th of April, 2020 commenced distribution of free nose masks as her support in the fight against the deadly COVID-19 virus. This project is in line with the directives of the President of Ghana and the Ghana Health Service, in addition to the WHO, making it necessary for everyone to wear a nose mask during this period. The first set of free nose masks, which are locally made, were distributed along the main streets of Dzodze township to police personnel, motor riders and food vendors, who are by virtue of the services they render, in contact with several people on a daily basis.
She has also used the opportunity to educate the recipients on the recommendations of the WHO in fighting this pandemic which include; washing the hands with soap under running water, applying alcohol based hand sanitizers, coughing or sneezing into disposable tissues or the elbow, observing social distancing protocols, staying at home as much as possible and wearing a nose/face mask when it becomes necessary to go out.
Mama Deza is appealing to individuals and organisations to assist her by donating in the form of cash or materials, to enable her distribute at least a thousand (1000) nose masks to help curb the spread of the Novell Corona virus. She is also much grateful to the tailors and seamstresses who are assisting in sewing the nose masks, together with the individuals who have helped her in the first phase of the free nose masks project. She was assisted in the distribution by members of her management team, including her runner up, Miss Jennifer Adorvlo.
It will be recalled the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, in his latest address to the nation on Sunday, 19th April 2020, did not extend the partial lockdown in Greater Accra and the Greater Kumasi areas. He however did not lift the ban on social gatherings but cautioned the nation to continue observing all prescribed protocols in fighting the COVID-19 virus. He further directed that the wearing of face/nose masks is now compulsory for everyone, when they have to go out of their homes.
