Koforidua: IGP Visits Injured Police Officers.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mrs. Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, the Director-General Welfare, DCOP/ Edward Johnson Akrofi Oyirifi, Eastern Regional Police Commander and some other senior officers visited 17 injured Police Officers at Koforidua yesterday, Sunday 29th November,2021.
The officers who are members of the Eastern Regional Police Band were involved in a road traffic accident on the Koforidua - Somanya road on Saturday, 27th November 2021. They were traveling to Somanya to perform at an event. The vehicle on which they were traveling is reported to have had a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle thereby running into a ditch.
All 17 personnel sustained various degrees of injuries and were admitted to the Atua Government Hospital, Somanya and later transferred to the Koforidua Regional Hospital.
Thirteen (13) of the personnel have been treated and discharged and the remaining four (4) are in a critical condition and still on admission for further treatment.
The IGP and his team visited those in critical condition at the Koforidua Regional Hospital and also visited the 13 other victims in their various homes.
In consultation with the Senior Surgeon at the hospital, Dr. Moses Dukuruku, the IGP requested that all the victims should be referred to the Police Hospital for further medical care.
The Police Administration is grateful to all the doctors and staff of the Atua Government Hospital, Somanya and the Koforidua Regional Hospital for their dedicated care to our personnel. We also commend the Eastern Regional Police Commander for his timely response to the incident.
We wish all the injured personnel a speedy recovery.
