NSMQ AND KETU SOUTH SCHOOLS : MY QUESTIONS ~ Foga Nukunu writes.

The just ended National Science and Maths Quiz Competition which was held at Kumasi has brought about a history and also brought a gap between the Schools in the various regions.
The contest which saw Keta Senior High Technical School emerging as third and setting a record of being the first school from Volta Region to the finals and also coming with a female student to the finals in 8 years.
With these record setting, a Teacher and Politician, Mr Foga Nukunu has taken to his Facebook timeline to express his heart felt displeasure through some questions bothering him about the recent performances of the school's in the Ketu South District in the National Science and Maths Quiz Competition in recent years.
According to him, the basic schools in the Ketu South District ( Amazing Love, Kekeli and etc) raised good and clever students and these students are the sharks in the great schools competing in the various quizzes at their various respective schools. But are Ketu South Schools worth competing at that level?
Below is his post on Facebook sighted by Konkonsah GH

Immediately Ketasco qualified for the Grand Finale, a serious record has been set in Volta /Oti.

Ketasco becomes the first school in Volta /Oti to reach the Grand Finale of the just ended  National Science and Maths Quiz held in Kumasi.

We have people all over Ghana displaying pictures of the three sharp and intelligent contestants. The picture of the  only female in the team got her share of the Facebook and Twitter festivals.
Those of us here in Ketu South are also sharing it. It is good to celebrate with others. One day , your time will come.

But are Ketu South Schools worth competing at that level?

I am writing this as an old student of St Paul's Secondary School. So I write with heavy heart so I will be very brief and straight to the point.

BASIC SCHOOLS IN KETU SOUTH ENOUGH TO RAISE A GIANT SHS

I wish to say a big thank you all Basic Schools in Ketu South for their outstanding performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination.

The caliber of BECE candidates churned out are enough both in excellence and numbers to raise a school to look like PRESEC or St Peter's Secondary School or Mawuli or Ola or KETASCO.
Every year, our schools produce high - graded students. Aggregate Six is common among some  schools in our municipality. As for 7, 8, 9 , 10 , 11 and 12 , they are just common.

What pricks my brain is the complete refusal of the  children with very good results  today to attend senior high schools in Ketu south.

I have asked few parents to tell me the reason why they are not ready to enroll their children in Ketu South schools. The reason they gave was that they would want to avoid a little experimentation. They don't want to do gambling with their children.

APPEAL

Ghana Education Service in Ketu south  has been doing so well in the BECE areas and needs a commendation. It is however sad that our senior high schools have been non competitive in several areas.

I am of the view that we need to rebrand the senior high schools in Ketu south in order to attract brilliant children from Ketu South Basic Schools.
KETASCO was in the semis for three times before the recent one. Children from Ketu South  Wisdom, Avoeme Basic , Border Basic School , Preventive School , Calvary , etc dominated the teams in last decade.

MY BIG  QUESTION

Be sincere, if you are in Aflao or Denu or Agbozume or Klikor and your lovely son or daughter scores AGGREGATE 8, which Senior High School will you like your child to attend in Volta.

Good morning and let me hear from you. Thank  you.
