Ghana Cricket team misses out on semis to Uganda.

Ghana’s Senior men national cricket team have missed out on the semifinals of the ongoing ACA T20 Africa Cup Finals in South Africa, after losing to Uganda in their last group A tie on Tuesday, September, 20, 2022.

Ghana chose to bat first after winning toss at the Willowmoore Park and began well with opening batters, James Vifah (45-37) and Samson Awiah (39-52), who kept their wickets till Vifah fell on the stroke of the 12th over with Ghana’s score at 74.

There was a wicket falling then in any other over till Ghana wrapped the innings, scoring 133/9.

It was time to restrict and Ghana started well, keeping the cranes off 1 run per ball with Kofi Bagabena. The Ugandans sped up and gradually reduced the deficit with some wonderful shots while keeping their wickets and scored 135/2 in 17.4 overs. 

Simon Ssesazi (56-56) Not Out, was adjudged the Player of the Match as the Cricket cranes of Uganda thus won the match by 8 wickets.

Ghana started the tournament with a 28 runs win against Mozambique on Friday, but lost to Botswana by 11 runs on Sunday, before their lost today, denying them a berth in the semifinals.

Captain Obed Harvey in a short interview with TalksenseSports admitted to their shortfall in the second game against Botswana.

“Yeah, it is just like any other tournament you participate in. No one goes to lose, but it didn’t go our way, but we tried our maximum best from the first game, we had it under control and lost track in the second game but then, it was one of those games that the best team won. At the long run, we learnt from it. And today’s game that we lost wasn’t bad, we gave our all, playing well in the second innings as we came back strongly.”

“We would have put ourselves in s better position to be in the knock out stages by now. We just have to go back to the drawing board and put in much effort for the next tournament. We can’t look down on ourselves, we just didn’t play well in the second game and that is what really hurt us and we just have to come back stronger and better.” He added.

Uganda played Kenya in the first semis tomorrow, while Group B winners, Tanzania engage Botswana later in the other semis.

Team Ghana is expected back to the country on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
