Mark Makafui Edzesim Bonnie was born on February 18, 1996, in Adutor, to Mr. Aaron Bonnie and Miss Alice Gati. His foundational education began at Adutor D.A JHS B, where he completed his basic education successfully. During his time at this school, handball was introduced by Mr. Edwin Tsogbey in 2009, a moment that sparked Mark's passion for the sport.
Initially, Mark served as a goalkeeper and quickly became one of the pioneers of handball in Adutor. His leadership qualities shone through as he eventually became the captain of the Adutor Royals Handball Club, under the guidance of Mr. Edwin Tsogbey.
Mark's love for handball continued to flourish when he was admitted to Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco). He joined the school's handball team and actively participated in inter-school competitions, representing both his school and the South Zone in various tournaments. His dedication was recognized in 2015 when he was appointed as the Sports Prefect, school handball captain, and the South Zone handball captain at large.
Beyond school competitions, Mark's talent earned him a spot on the South Tongu District team, where he competed in matches in Togo and Accra. He not only excelled as a player but also took on coaching responsibilities for the Adutor handball team during the South Tongu District handball league.
Mark's passion for handball extended into officiating, as he joined the District Referee Association and spent years officiating matches. His commitment and skills culminated in his certification and induction into the National Handball Referee Association on July 21, 2024, earning him an officiating badge as a National Handball Referee.
Currently, Mark is pursuing his studies at the University of Education, Winneba, in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Sports (HPERS), continuing his journey in the world of sports with the same dedication and passion that marked the beginning of his handball career.
