Hon. Safo Nketia Engages Kparekpare Community in Development Dialogue

As part of ongoing efforts to foster community relations and understand the pressing needs of residents within the Krachi East Municipality, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Honourable Safo Nketia, has embarked on a community engagement tour, with a recent visit to the people of Kparekpare Community.

The community durbar, which was well attended by residents, opinion leaders, and local stakeholders, provided a platform for open dialogue between the MCE and the people. Hon. Safo Nketia took time to listen to the concerns of residents and pledged to work collaboratively towards finding sustainable solutions.

During the engagement, the MCE emphasized the importance of unity and development beyond political affiliations. He elaborated on key government projects that are currently ongoing or in the pipeline and encouraged the residents of Kparekpare to take full advantage of these initiatives for self-development and community growth.
> “We are committed to building a resilient and prosperous Kparekpare. Let us look beyond our political colors and work together to solve the issues affecting us,” Hon. Safo Nketia stated.

Key Issues Raised by the Community

The engagement revealed a variety of concerns that span infrastructure, education, sanitation, employment, and healthcare. Below is a summary of the major issues presented by residents during the session:

1. Sanitation and Waste Management
Residents lamented the use of a wheelbarrow and bucket by Zoomlion for waste collection, calling for improved tools and a waste container to enhance sanitation in the area.

2. Chieftaincy Disputes
Unresolved chieftaincy issues were highlighted as a source of tension, affecting unity and local development efforts.

3. Youth Employment
The community called for more employment opportunities for the youth to reduce idleness and enhance economic participation.

4. Educational Infrastructure
There is a significant shortage of classrooms and furniture, particularly at the BECE examination center and Togbekope school. The current infrastructure was described as inadequate and in a deteriorated state.

5. Road Network Challenges
Several roads, including the Togbekope Road leading to Victory School and the Toromedzi Road, were cited as being in poor condition and in dire need of rehabilitation.

6. Electricity Access
Calls were made for the extension of electricity to unconnected areas and the repair or replacement of non-functioning street lights.

7. Transport and Mobility
Residents raised concerns about high transport fares and requested that local authorities engage transport operators to review pricing in consideration of community conditions.

8. Healthcare Services
The Kparekpare Health Center was reported to be in need of expansion and basic materials such as iron sheets to support building efforts.

9. Market Infrastructure
A newly established market lacks proper sheds, making trading difficult, especially during harsh weather conditions.

10. Security and Law Enforcement
The absence of a police post was noted as a major gap, with residents requesting the establishment of a station to enhance security and combat crime.

11. Civic Engagement
Some residents expressed concern over low participation in communal labor, calling for renewed commitment to community service.

MCE’s Assurances

In response to the concerns raised, Hon. Safo Nketia assured residents of the Assembly's commitment to prioritizing the needs of the Kparekpare community. He pledged to collaborate with relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure that solutions are found and implemented efficiently.

> “Your voices have been heard, and I assure you that we will not rest until Kparekpare gets the development it deserves,” he reiterated.

This community engagement marks a significant step in inclusive governance and participatory development in Krachi East. The Assembly is expected to document all issues raised and begin strategic planning to address them in phases.
