PW/Sergeant Sophia Elikplim Dedjoe: A Story of Dedication, Excellence, and National Pride

In a shining example of hard work, discipline, and brilliance, PW/Sergeant Sophia Elikplim Dedjoe has risen to national recognition as the Overall Best Graduate (Under-Cadet) Police Recruit out of all six Police Training Schools across Ghana. Her story is one of determination, academic excellence, and service, embodying the very essence of what it means to be a committed officer of the Ghana Police Service.
Born on 9th February 1996 in Tegbi, Keta, a serene town in the Volta Region, Sophia is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dedjoe. Her early life was marked by a strong foundation in education, beginning with her Basic and Junior High School education in Tema Newtown from 2004 to 2010. With a clear focus and an appetite for learning, she continued to Sogakofe Senior High School, where she studied Home Economics from 2010 to 2013.
Her academic journey reached greater heights in 2015 when she gained admission to the University of Education, Winneba, to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics Education, which she successfully completed in 2019. Demonstrating exceptional dedication to her field, Sophia undertook her National Service at the same university from 2019 to 2020, after which she was appointed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in 2021 to teach Clothing and Textiles at her alma mater, Sogakofe Senior High School.
However, in pursuit of a higher calling to serve her country more directly, Sophia joined the Ghana Police Service in November 2024. She began her rigorous six-month Basic Police Training at the prestigious National Police Training School, alongside 1,194 other recruits. The training was intensive and covered a wide range of essential subjects and physical exercises, including Criminal Law, Investigations, Community Policing, Traffic Management, Communication Skills, Arms and Foot Drills, Musketry, Professional Ethics, Child-Friendly Policing, and Public Order Management, among others.
Throughout the training, Under-Cadet Sophia Elikplim Dedjoe distinguished herself not only in academic excellence but also in discipline, leadership, and physical fitness. Her outstanding performance in both theoretical and practical aspects of the training culminated in her emergence as the Overall Best Female Recruit in the standardized nationwide examination held in June 2025 for the 7th Batch of 2021 recruits across all six police training schools in Ghana.
Beyond the uniform, Sophia is known for her calm and reflective nature. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading and baking, two hobbies that reflect both her love for knowledge and creativity. Her success stands as a powerful inspiration to many young women across the country, showing that with commitment and purpose, excellence is attainable.
PW/Sergeant Sophia Elikplim Dedjoe's journey from the classroom to the parade ground is a testament to the possibilities that lie in hard work, discipline, and service to country. Her achievement not only brings pride to her family and community in Tegbi but also to the Ghana Police Service and the nation at large. She is indeed a beacon of hope and an emblem of the future of Ghana’s security services.
