The Queen Mother of Amedzofe, Onetitsisie Osawa Dzedze Asantesue IV, has officially launched the Amedzofe Tourism Day Celebration 2025, setting the stage for a week-long cultural, religious, and tourism-centered festival in the scenic mountain town of Amedzofe in the Volta Region.
This year’s celebration is themed “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation: Amedzofe Eco-Tourism”, reflecting the community’s commitment to harnessing its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and traditions as drivers of sustainable development. The program, which spans from Sunday, 28th September to Sunday, 5th October 2025, is packed with diverse activities that promise to engage residents, visitors, and stakeholders in memorable and impactful ways.
The celebration opens on Sunday, 28th September 2025, with non-denominational prayers involving all churches, followed by a community gathering and a thrilling live band performance. The following day, Monday, 29th September, features the traditional announcement of the celebration (Atumpan drumming) in the early morning, culminating in cultural performances by basic schools in the evening.
On Tuesday, 30th September, rituals continue with the purification rites of the Voetie stream, a symbolic act of cleansing and renewal, followed by a vibrant Culture Night. The festival then shifts on Wednesday, 1st October, to environmental stewardship with a clean-up exercise and the much-anticipated Kusakorkor evening rites.
The cultural heartbeat of the week intensifies on Thursday, 2nd October, with Kusakorkor morning rites, a grand Kusakorkor procession, and the lively Borborbor Night. Friday, 3rd October, is action-packed with a Thanksgiving procession, volleyball games, a float parade, and the glamorous Face of Amedzofe Eco-Tourism Pageantry.
Saturday, 4th October, marks one of the biggest highlights with Kenlplopio – Amedzofe women’s day celebrations, a durbar of chiefs, and a fundraising event in support of community development projects, including the construction of town roads and drainage systems. The festivities will climax on Sunday, 5th October, with a non-denominational thanksgiving service.
Organizers have set a target of GH₵400,000 to fund key developmental projects in the community, ensuring that Amedzofe Tourism Day goes beyond celebration and contributes meaningfully to local growth.
With a perfect blend of tradition, spirituality, culture, and tourism, this year’s celebration is expected to attract large crowds and reaffirm Amedzofe’s place as one of Ghana’s most vibrant eco-tourism destinations.
