Read2Kick launched in Tegbi Schools.

In a vibrant and inspiring ceremony held at Tegbi Afedome Basic School on Thursday, 9th October 2025, the Read2Kick Club was officially launched by Keta Municipal Library of Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) under the theme “We Read, We Play.” The initiative seeks to combine literacy and sports among boys as complementary tools to nurture well-rounded learners who excel both intellectually and physically.
The Read2Kick Club, an initiative jointly supported by Ghana Library Authirity Keta, Hands on Sports Foundation (USA), Half Price Books (USA), Ceciyaa Foundation (Ghana), and the National Readers Association (Ghana), aims to cultivate strong reading habits among pupils while also developing their sporting skills — especially in football.
The launch brought together pupils, teachers, and community leaders from across the Tegbi Community, including participants from Tegbi RC Basic School, Tegbi E.P. Basic School, Tegbi Afedome Basic School, Tegbi Agbedrafor Basic School, and Tegbi Ashiata Basic School.

As part of the program, each school received a set of jerseys and a football to kickstart their Read2Kick activities. In addition, Mr. Max Geoffrey Kutor, with the support, donated a trophy in the name of 'Torgbi Blibo Trophy to inspire healthy competition among the participating schools. The maiden edition of the Read2Kick Tournament saw Tegbi R.C Basic School emerge as the overall winner of the *Blibo Trophy,* showcasing great teamwork and enthusiasm.

In his remarks, Mr. Dominic Kwadzo, the Anloga District Director of Education, commended the initiative, describing it as a creative and impactful way to engage students. He noted that combining reading and sports not only enhances literacy and discipline but also builds confidence, teamwork, and leadership among pupils.
Mr. Dela Odamson, the Keta Municipal Librarian, remarked in his opening address that the idea emerged from the library's efforts to engage schoolchildren in various literary activities, which unfortunately, garnered less interest from boys. However, this special programme aims to leverage the boys' interest in football to boost their engagement."

The Read2Kick initiative represents a powerful collaboration between education and sports development — a program designed to inspire the next generation of young readers, thinkers, and athletes. With its motto “We Read, We Play,” the Read2Kick Club promises to transform classrooms and playgrounds across the region into hubs of creativity, learning, and unity.

Mr Dela Odamson, the Keta Municipal Librarian also used the medium to express his profound gratitude to the National (Ghana) Readers Association for their immersed support towards the reading activities in the region especially their donation of reading books to all libraries in the Volta Region.
