Oti: Worawora District Police Command descends on armed robbery.

The Worawora District Police Commander in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region, Superintendent Simons Amenu has disclosed that the collaborative effort of his men and other stakeholders in the area have led to a zero armed robbery incident along the Worawora-Abotoase-Nkonya highway in the past three and half years.
According to him, the police command remains resolute and committed in ensuring that the area continues to be safe and peaceful before, during and after the upcoming Christmas and New Year seasons.

Before the middle of 2018, the Nkonya-Abotoase-Worawora highway saw a couple of armed-robbery incidents some of which resulted in casualties.

According to the 2016 Annual Report of the Statistics and Information Technology Unit (SITU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS), robbery incidents reduced by 50.5 percent from ninety-five (95) cases in 2015 to forty-seven (47) in 2016 in the Volta Region which then included the present Oti Region. The statistics formed part of the national figure of 1,411 for 2015 which reduced to 1,397 in 2016.

The police have since been deploying a lot of strategies including intensifying night and day patrols in order to bring the situation under control.

The creation of the Oti Region also led to the establishment of the National Counter Terrorism Unit at the regional capital of Dambai, a move which has paid off greatly in maintaining peace and total security in the area.

Speaking to our newsteam in an interview at Tapa Amanya, Supt. Amenu warned that the police are ready for anyone or groups of persons who would attempt to breach the peace of the country before, during and after the Christmas and the New Year seasons. According to him, his men have always been committed and up to the task hence the successes chalked over the last few years.

Mr. Amenu gave the assurance that the achievement would not make them rest on their oars, adding that such miscreants would continue to be weeded out of the system in order to ensure total peace for the people.

On the activities of drug addicts including weed smokers, the District Commander disclosed that his officers have so far disabled seven hard drug ghettos within the police district, adding that the police would deal ruthlessly with persons found to be engaging in the illegal hard drug business including marijuana.
According to him, the coming Christmas and New Year seasons would be free from any negative incidents, adding that the police would be deployed strategically to vantage points to ensure that the seasons pass peacefully without any challenges.
