Friday, September 5, 2025
The Kpando Municipal Fire Station Safety Team of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has carried out a fire safety inspection exercise at the Margaret Marquardt Catholic Hospital in Kpando.
The exercise focused on the hospital’s Liquefiable Oxygen (LOX) installation, a critical facility that supplies oxygen for medical use. The inspection involved a thorough examination of the installation setup, its operational mode, and compliance with required safety standards. The team also assessed whether the facility had been properly executed in line with fire safety protocols.
According to officials, the purpose of the exercise was not only to check the technical integrity of the LOX installation but also to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and hospital property. Fire safety around medical oxygen systems is especially important due to their flammable nature and their vital role in healthcare delivery.
Following the inspection, the GNFS will prepare and submit a comprehensive risk assessment report to the hospital authorities. This report will highlight key observations, outline potential risks, and provide recommendations for improving safety procedures.
The Municipal Fire Officer emphasized that such inspections form part of the GNFS’s broader mandate to safeguard lives and property, particularly in sensitive environments such as hospitals, schools, markets, and public institutions. He added that fire safety is a shared responsibility and urged management to strictly implement the recommendations in the forthcoming report.
Management of the Margaret Marquardt Catholic Hospital expressed appreciation to the GNFS for their proactive role in ensuring safety within the facility. They assured that the hospital would carefully review the findings and take the necessary corrective actions.
This exercise reaffirms GNFS’s commitment to strengthening fire safety standards across the Kpando Municipality and beyond, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent fire outbreaks and protect essential infrastructure.
