Republic Bank breaks ground for borehole project at Taviefe Senior High School


In a clear demonstration of corporate social responsibility and commitment to community development, leadership of Republic Bank, together with key stakeholders, on [earlier today], officially broke ground for the construction of a borehole at Taviefe Senior High School in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.


The borehole project is being implemented under Republic Bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiative, the Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) programme. The intervention also aligns strongly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which seeks to ensure the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all.


Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the host emphasized the critical importance of the project in addressing longstanding water challenges confronting schools and communities across the Volta Region. He noted that access to clean and reliable water remains a major concern for many educational institutions, often affecting teaching, learning, sanitation, and overall student welfare. He therefore expressed profound gratitude to Republic Bank for the bold and timely initiative, describing it as a practical example of how the private sector can partner with communities to drive sustainable development.


The Managing Director of Republic Bank, Dr. Benjamin Dzokoto, who delivered the keynote address, highlighted that the borehole project goes beyond the provision of physical infrastructure. According to him, the initiative is designed to transform lives by improving health outcomes, enhancing sanitation, and creating a conducive environment for academic excellence. He urged the students of Taviefe Senior High School to make productive use of the time saved from trekking long distances in search of water, encouraging them to channel that energy into their studies and personal development.


Dr. Dzokoto reaffirmed Republic Bank’s commitment to supporting initiatives that have a lasting impact on education, health, and community well-being, stressing that the PMAD programme remains a key vehicle through which the bank contributes to national development.


The ceremony was attended by several distinguished personalities, including the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon. Edem Kpotosu; the Municipal Chief Executive for Ho Central, Hon. Stephen Adom; Hon. Kofi Attor; traditional leaders; school authorities; students; and other invited guests.


Stakeholders at the event commended Republic Bank for its foresight and generosity, expressing optimism that the borehole, once completed, will significantly improve water access at Taviefe Senior High School and enhance the quality of life for both students and staff.


The borehole project is expected to be completed within the shortest possible time and will serve as a sustainable solution to the school’s water needs, reinforcing the shared commitment of government, corporate institutions, and community leaders to improving education and social infrastructure in the Volta Region.
